R.I.P. Rihanna's Shoulder Pads (2009-2010)
Kanye West interviewed Rihanna for the December issue of Interview magazine. And guess what one of his first questions was about? Yep, fashion! Specifically, "how has it evolved since the start of [her] career." And as pointed out over at Styleite, the Good Girl Gone Bad says she went from “a very, innocent, girly look," to "a darker, edgier look." And now? Rihanna says she's "over the whole structured clothing, overly shoulder-padded shit. I like stuff that's easy without trying too hard. I don’t like stuff that’s too contrived." Well, RiRi, before you brush off your shoulders (which we will miss dearly), lets celebrate them. Here's a look back at our favorite Rihanna shoulder padded moments.
THE BEGINNING: PUFFY SHOULDERS
Rihanna's shoulder situation started off less pointy and more pillowy in plush suit jackets and feminine tops with padding that looked powerful, but still soft.
Rihanna at the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City on June 29, 2009, at the Balmain Pret a Porter during Paris Womenswear Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 on October 1, 2009 and backstage during Givenchy Pret a Porter during Paris Fashion Week on October 4, 2009.
STREET CHIC
As Rihanna's toppers shrunk and became more form-fitting, her shoulder pads got narrower and grew pointier. Very Balmain.
SOFTER POINT
By adding feathers and fabric, or cutting off one shoulder pad altogether, Rihanna showed a more feminine side. Sure, she was still making a fashion point, but it wasn't as in-your-face.
THE END: SHOULDER EXPLOSION
Are these super-embellished, patterned and printed, quarterback-style performance pads the last we'll see from Rihanna? We sure hope not!

Adriana Lima's comeback
Leading fashion photographer Russell James has done it all, from filming and directing art films to capturing unique and provocative stills of prominent women in the entertainment and modeling industry. But even with all the glitz and glam of traveling the world photographing supermodels, James is well known for his sincere appreciation of the environment and the native aboriginals from Australia, and has embarked on a project entitled Nomad Two Worlds to do just that.
Nomad Two Worlds Project
A Western Australian native, James started the project back in early 2009 with the support of fashion designer Donna Karan, actor Hugh Jackman, and the Australian government. The project's aim is to inspire awareness for child health research, along with preserving the relationship between modern Australian civilization and the surviving culture of its aboriginal people.
James had the idea for the project back in February 2008, when Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, addressed the public in a nationwide apology for the atrocities committed by the men of parliament in the past to it's indigenous Australian people.
"For me as an adult to see that occur, it was so inspirational and encouraging, that I felt, I have to do something," James said in a video clip on his site detailing the issue.
A collaboration with Victoria's Secret Angel Adriana Lima was established to then stream a come-back video on the Nomad Two World Project's site to pump up the model's return from a months-long maternal hiatus. After giving birth in mid-November to daughter Valentina, Lima returned on the scene with her old, if not better looking, figure, ready to slip back into those nighties, and continue with her career.
The video was produced by James himself and edited by Barry Alexander Brown, an Academy Award nominated editor who's also edited some of James's more recent work. With a running time of three minutes, the video features Adriana Lima at her best, showing off her re-sleeked figure in a boxing ring, her preferred form of exercise, and the one that helped her slim down after the birth of Valentina. Shot to Italian DJ Benny Benassi's remix of Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze", the video features a fierce boxing match and a short shower scene.
Other supporters of the Nomad Two Worlds project include pop sensation Black Eyed Peas, the Fox Family, Baz Luhrman, the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation, the Department of Reconciliation and Repatriation, Metro Gallery, and the Institute for Child Health Research. Flo Rida and Akon's new hit "Who that Girl"
Like… well, just about everything the dude’s released, new single Who Dat Girl sees Flo Rida overtaken by the charms of a beautiful woman. This time, however, the story’s set not at the club, but at the emcee’s local polling place, where the artist spots an alluring shawty in line to cast her ballot. OK, that was a lie designed to subtly influence readers to run to the polls while (or if) there’s still time. PSA over. In reality, this is another of Flo’s trademark radio/club bangers, featuring a beat strongly reminiscent of Dr. Luke‘s work on Tik Tok and all the lust-fueled rhymes we’ve come to expect from the Panhandle State representative (“I imagine her topless, she might set off my rocket,” etc.). Adding an extra jolt of pop appeal, Konvict head honcho Akon jumps aboard to lend his vocals to the double-time chorus. So, readers, is Dat Girl a worthy successor to its Booth-acclaimed predecessor, Turn Around? Whatever your take on the matter, you’ll find both of the aforementioned cuts and plenty more on the rapper’s Only One Flo (Pt.1) LP, due out
"Only One Flo (Part 1)" - released this week on November 30th - The track features Akon and was produced by Dr Luke...which I'm sure you could easily imagined as the song's beat sounds like a mix of 'California Gurls' and 'Tik Tok'. Anyways, "Who Dat Girl" is just an okay song to me...it has a catchy hook...yeah...but that's it. The rest is forgettable IMO. It seems "Club Can't Handle" will remain as the album's best single thus far. The new music video for "Who Dat Girl" was directed by Ray Kay, the guy behind Willow Smith's dope "Whip my Hair" visual. It was good! The clip basically revolves around a cyberspace girl who finds her way into the real world, by accident, and enjoys a good time with Flo before disappearing.

Justin Bieber: restaurant critic
Looks like Justin Bieber has been at the E numbers again.
Last night he left fellow diners horrified as he misbehaved on a night out at super posh restaurant, La Porte Des Indes.
The teen pop sensation reportedly felt tipped on a ‘hilarious’ moustache, played with his toys at the table (!) before throwing a tantrum.
Oh lesbian haired one – we told you to lay off the Sunny Delight! Isn’t it about time someone put this kid down for a nap?
At one point he was seen playing with a remote-controlled helicopter, which one fellow diner reckons he flew into his minder's head…(We are controlling the urge to laugh at evidently immature antics).
Can we really blame Biebs for getting a tad over excited? He has nominated for two Grammy’s at the age of 6 (ish).
Justin, who resembles a toupeed foetus, has also gone on record discussing his amorous feelings for our very own Chezza Cole.
Talking to Fearne on Radio One yesterday Justin confimed he has, in fact, hit puberty by saying he enjoyed meeting Cheryl Cole, who he said was 'hot' and 'fit'.
Yeah calm down Bebo, she’s ours.
Ashton Kutcher's alleged mistress releases sex tape
The latest instalment in the seemingly endless Ashton Kutcher-alleged-mistress saga has just popped up. First 21-year-old Brittney Jones claimed to have had a hot one night stand with Ashton. Next she alleged that he and wife Demi Moore have an open relationship and that they often have threesomes. She told Star magazine in the US, "He said they share women, but he isn't supposed to go off and sleep with women on his own. He said Demi had to be there and that Demi likes to pick the girls out." Now, in a thoroughly unsurprising turn of events, Brittney’s cashing in on her shag-a-star fame by releasing a sex tape.
But the Kutcher-Moores aren’t taking it lying down (if you’ll pardon the expression). Ashton’s suing Vivid entertainment, the company behind the tape, for trying to use his name to get extra publicity. Their press release says, “Vivid has obtained never-before-released footage that shows Brittney engaged in very explicit, uninhibited sex with a former boyfriend. Ashton's fans will undoubtedly enjoy seeing what the star himself may have experienced.”
Ashton’s lawyers have sent a strongly worded letter saying they’re infringing on his "marketable celebrity identity value" but the company’s CEO, Steve Hirsch, insists the release will go ahead.
Let's just hope Ashton and Demi can leave this one to the legal eagles. Although we have to admit that we'd quite like to see Demi's long lost GI Jane moves in action... Madonna's just a woman, says new boyfriend
With her iconic status, ridiculous income, glittering career, chequered love life and ability to reinvent herself as easily as heatworld gets a new haircut, you might think there was something very special about the world-striding superstar known as Madonna. So you’ll be pleased to know that Her Madgesty is, after all, mostly just a woman – at least according to her latest lover.
French hip-hop breakdancer Brahim Zaibat is just 24 to Madge’s 52, the same age as her previous boyfriend, Brazilian Jesus Luz. But despite the difference in age and status Brahim’s not intimidated by his famous filly.
He tells French Grazia, “It wasn't like meeting a monster! She's just a woman like all the others. She's an extraordinary artist and world famous, of course, but a woman above all. You know she wasn't the first well known female singer I'd met. I was delighted to meet her but not stressed out.”
There was nothing calculated in the way the affair was made public either: he said, “We were in a club and we were seen dancing together. It was because it was Madonna that the affair took on massive proportions. We had a nice night together without thinking that there might be paparazzi there.”
In fact, Brahim’s so unimpressed by his lady love’s status that he insists the only effect it’s had has been on other people, saying, “I've stayed the same. It's others who have changed. People I haven't seen for seven years have suddenly remembered that I exist. It's become unmanageable. So I've changed my mobile number.”
Refreshingly un-starstruck or incredibly naïve? You decide!
